Only 18 days left until I get to go home.
This morning i woke early and snuck out of the hotel room to let Zak sleep. I walked across the parking lot to the Costa coffee and got myself a mocha and something that resembled a breakfast sandwich. You know you’ve been away from home too long when you begin to resent a country for its food.
I got to talk to my mom and my uncle last night via Skype, though for some reason my video wasn’t working, so i could only see them but they couldn’t see me. But it sure does help to be able to see your people! It’s sure does make them feel a whole lot closer.
I roused Zak at about 11:30 and we packed up and loaded the car. I had a phone interview at noon, and then another at 1pm. We drove a short way to Keswick, where we were earlier in the tour, which is in the Lake District. We found the same laundrette we visited earlier and loaded our clothes in. I visited the post office and sent off some thing to my mom and step-dad and son. I am tending the laundry, and Zak has gone out walking for the day.
Now I am in a little cafe with free wireless, eating a vegetarian sandwich.
Zak and I are nearing the end of this tour, and the end of our musical relationship. At least as it has existed so far. We may be playing a few shows together here and there, but this is our final hoorah. We part on very good terms, but to be honest, I don’t really have the heart or stomach to talk about the details of it. Suffice it to say - he’ll be focusing on his own path as a singer-songwriter. I wish him all the best!
Like all break-ups, this one too is an ending that leaves room for new beginnings. I look forward to discovering what the future holds.
In the interim, a sold-out concert for us tonight in Wigton - that will be nice.
All the best,
Rachel
