Tuesday August 3, 2010 11:58 PM  A long last bunch of days.  For how light a schedule I feel we’ve had, I feel exhausted.  Got checked into hotel in Milton Keynes last night, late, after approx 12 hours either in the car or sitting down eating or having coffee breaks.  We managed to make it just in time for dinner in the hotel restaurant (which turned out to be fresh and delicious!)  Afterwards,...

Monday august 2, 2010 Alrighty well so much so much for keeping up the tour blog regularly.  J Monday to thursday last week were mostly just continued rehearsals with rod.  This past Friday to Sunday was the southern fried Americana festival in perth, one of my favorite places.  Not so much for the city itself, just the folks and local music and how I do very much enjoy Scotland and this festival...

Sunday, July 25, 2010 Just back from a long weekend at the Summertyne Americana Festival at The Sage in Gateshead/Newcastle, England. I wish there was an easier faster way to communicate a lot of information in a brief span.  I’m not feeling very motivated at writing about the tour now.  I considered filming video because it would get much more across than simply writing, but the prospect of...

Thursday, July 22, 2010 Hiked a few miles Tuesday and another few with Steve yesterday in the late afternoon.  Been really good to get out like that. Had first rehearsal with Rod yesterday and went very very well.  Very pleased with that! Got emails from Evan Brubaker with first rough mixes on 8 of the new record’s songs.  Steve heard them for the first time and grinned and said not to worry about...

Tuesday, July 20, 2010  It was an odd week, this past one.  I was in the studio Monday and Tuesday, the 11th and 12th.  Then I went south to Brush Prairie to visit my folks for Wednesday and Thursday.  Then driving back to Seattle Friday, I stopped in Tacoma for my last studio day there.  We had planned on working from 2 til maybe 5 or 6, but we ended up not getting done til about 11 that night...

Celtic Connections, Scotland, January 2010
It feels good to be back in the UK, particularly Scotland.  I do so love the country and the people. Played Celtic Connections on the next to last day of it, January 30, as a triple bill with Diana Jones and Karine Polwart.  Accompanying me were Dave Keenan (mandolin, backing vocals) and Paul Elliott (fiddle).  Was sure a good time! The day after, I did a spot on Celtic Music Radio (hi,...

Wednesday July 8, 2009  11:19 pm Brush Prairie, Washington Arrived to my folks’ place late night on July 6th.  They, with my son and my dog, met me at the airport, and oh what a happy reunion that was! The last week of tour with Rod was a real joy.  He was a most pleasant traveling companion – both gentlemanly and … well I can’t think of the right word except to say we felt like good...

12;41 am no easy way to say it.  zak and i broke up today, and that’s about that. it was a year and a half in coming.  we’ve played together for three years now …  it’s difficult pulling things apart when you work with someone, are really close friends with them, and are also involved with them in other ways.  we’ve tried various permutations of those three and none...

Friday june 26, 2009 8:27 pm backstage at Southport Arts Centre sometimes you show up to a gig and go, “Whoa!  Am I really playing here?  Cool!”  Southport is like that.  I’ll post a picture so you can see the outside. Cara is onstage playing her set right now.  She’s playing with her partner Hugh.  Cara used to be with the Wailin’ Jennys.  She is very good and is right up my alley,...

Monday june 22, 2009 10:32am Little Chef, right beside the Travelodge in Middlewich Let’s face it: any Whitney Houston is too much Whitney Houston.  But god damn, I’ve heard more Whitney Houston on the trip than I heard in all of the 80’s.  What the hell?  There ARE other artists out there, like artists in the last 20 years … [insert rant here] I’d like to start a radio banishment list, and it...

June 20 2009 2:16 pm Premier Inn about half an hour outside of Cambridge It’s 2:16 pm.  Which reminds me of John 3:16.  For god so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whoever believeth in him shall not perish but have everlasting life. 16 days left. Only 18 days left until I get to go home. This morning i woke early and snuck out of the hotel room to let Zak sleep.  I walked across the parking lot to the Costa coffee and got myself a mocha and something that resembled a breakfast sandwich.  You know you’ve been away from home too long when you begin to resent a country for its food. I got to talk to my mom and my uncle last night via...
